    STORY

SHEEP RUGS | Vacht Van Vilt - This amazing ethical company sources wool from small local farms only. They collect it personally to ensure quality and transparency in the well-being of the sheep. Unfortunately, over the last years sheep wool increasingly became a waste product. We need to make sure that this wonderful sustainable product will not become waste.

The leather free rugs are all handmade in Holland and felted with organic olive soap. Because the rugs are made from sheared wool, the artisan can make a rug every year from each sheep. It is a sustainable and honest product. At the back of the rug there's a felted rag of carded (combed) wool. This helps the rug to remain firmly together. These rags are carded from the artisan's own wool, confirming the sheep's origin and good treatment. Once there's enough carded wool for a rug, the rag is put on on shaved sheep wool. Now the felting begins, which is a lot of work! With water, soap and friction the wool fibers attach themselves to each other. After felting, the rug is thoroughly washed. When the rug is dry and clean, an authenticity stamp is sewn on. Each rug has it's own number, and is unique! The rugs come with their own custom-made bag.

UNIQWA - The ethos behind Uniqwa is to use recycled and plantation woods in their range to create contemporary design. Featuring the exotic influence of African culture integrated with contemporary flair, Uniqwa’s distinctive and inspiring pieces are a stunning addition to any room.

  • Remnant Cotton Rug | Red

    Rug Solid

    Remnant Cotton Rug | Red

    $39.00

    v

    Rug Solid

    Remnant Cotton Rug | Red

    $39.00

Handwoven with cotton remnants from the fashion industry, the exquisite Remnant Rug will add an absolute extra coolness to your floor.

The handcrafted cotton rug has been woven with a series of cotton strips - remains from the international fashion industry. Normally, these would meet their sad end in a container, and later probably at a disposal facility. Instead, they are now used to bring you this beautiful and unique cotton rug.

When the fashion industry makes shirts, skirts and other cool stuff, they end up with many cotton leftovers. Rug Solid loves garbage. They bring the leftover materials to a small village in India, where they sort the colours, shred the cotton, and weave the thousands of small pieces to end up with a one-of-a-kind rug. All done by hand naturally. If you have the patience (and a dash of luck), you might recognize a pattern or some details from last season’s fashion collection.

    Available in 6 sizes.

    STORY

When you feel this carpet between your hands, you will also feel the care that has gone into the dense weave. Of course it is less expensive, and easier to produce carpeting in conventional manner. There is, however, not much reuse of materials, which is why we believe this method is worth the effort. Another advantage is that no two carpets are the same; each carpet has its own particular and beautiful details.

During the production process, a uniform and tight weaving is a priority, so the end result is a high-quality carpet that will be long lasting, contemporary and earth-conscious.

Danish brand Rug Solid’s fundamental idea is rooted in recycling. They are taking it upon themselves to create new life by transforming waste into beautiful, unique design rugs in an exquisite quality. Less waste. More function. It’s that simple.

Rug Solid's products are certified Global Recycled Standard (GRS). The standard applies to the full supply chain and addresses traceability, environmental principles, social requirements, and labeling. GRS was developed with the textile industry in mind.

    TECHNICAL INFORMATION

Daily cleaning may be done with regular vacuuming or by beating the rug. If the rug is stained, it's often easier to rinse it with a garden hose than using a brush to avoid rubbing the stain in further between the fibres. Stretch the rug immediately if it gets wet.

Since these products are woven by hand, the size may vary by 3-5%. Some floors can be delicate and particularly susceptible, we therefore recommend that the carpet used with a rug underlay to prevent staining on the floor. If in doubt, check with the flooring manufacturer. The carpet may be slightly "dented" when put on the floor, but will flatten with use.

    $295.00

    v

    Crea-Re

    Pluto Floor Lamp

    $295.00

Corky and fun, Pluto Floor Lamp is 100% handmade in Barcelona from upcycled newspapers.

Pluto fits in any contemporary environment such as the living room, bedroom, children's room, office, etc.

    STORY

Pluto belongs to the collection of two lamps whose name refer to the dwarf planet Pluto (see the Pluto Pendant Lamp). This planet's structure changes while orbiting around the Sun and that became a source of inspiration to create two lamps.

Pluto’s internal structure consists of dense core of rocks surrounded by a mantle of ice. Its orbit is elongated and when Pluto is closer to the Sun, its temperature increases causing the ice to sublimate into gas. As Pluto moves away from the Sun, its atmosphere gradually freezes out, and falls to the ground. That inspired the creation of a floor lamp, with the thick, solid layer of paper, much heavier than in the pendant version.

The paper used for this creation was destroyed, broken into tiny pieces, then transformed into a whole new material entity by a technique using hot temperature. The "new" paper can be shaped in many different ways and in its final form brings an association with nature, its source. Handmade in Spain.

Materials: Recycled paper pulp | Wooden legs | Textile cable

    Color: Blue

    Dimensions: 55 cm H x 40 cm W | Cable length: 1 meter

    Delivery time: 3-4 weeks

    Origin: Spain

Technical information: The internal part of the lampshade has a particular pattern, different and unique in each lamp. The lamp comes with a 1 meter textile cable, let us know if you need a longer cord, we will add it for you. Lamps and cords are available in many colors, contact us for specific needs. Switch on cord. Only LED light bulb (E27) can be used (max 20w). Bulbs are not included. The lamp may be cleaned with a dry brush. Packed in a solid cardboard box and ships already assembled. Shipped by national courier.

  • Acoustic Guitar Eco-Bag | ONE-OF-A-KIND SERIES

    Crea-Re

    Acoustic Guitar Eco-Bag | ONE-OF-A-KIND SERIES

    $225.00

Introducing the exclusive Acoustic Guitar Eco-Bag | ONE-OF-A-KIND SERIES handmade from upcycled plastic and ecological fur.

Washable and waterproof, the bag is part of Crea-Re's exclusive handmade and upcycled musical instrument bags collection (see their one-of-a-kind items in our Green Play Collection).

    STORY

The brand uses eco-friendly and reclaimed materials such as: truck tarpaulins, advertising banners, bike inner tubes, paragliding wires, climbing wires, car seat belts, etc. These reusable materials are similar in that they all are durable, flexible, water resistant and they are hard to recycle ecologically. The inspiration comes from geometric abstraction, cut-up technique, cubism and suprematism.

The inside of the bag is upholstered with 2 cm of double density foam, and a soft ecological fur optimizes the protection of your instrument, keeping it always clean. The acoustic guitar bag is reinforced in critical points to protect the instruments from any accidents: a double pillow in the bottom protects the strap pin against potential damage; a velcro strap around the neck, made from car safety belts, provides stability and keeps the guitar firm inside the case. It has two adjustable shoulder straps and a handle. It’s perfect and comfortable to travel by bike, scooter, bus, train, metro, skates, etc. It features a spacious front pocket useful for carrying books, sheet music, cables, pedals, and all that you need to make great music.

The materials used to create a bag are of regional origin (Spain). They are cleaned in an environmental friendly way with hot water, frozen dew, and organic products such as vinegar, baking soda and home soap. The are then cut, assembled by hand and carefully examined for integrity, strength and durability. The zippers are resistant to thousands of openings and closings. The accessories are designed and chosen to tackle traction and extreme weights.

    DESIGNER

Each product designed by Crea-Re is based on a few but important golden rules: comfort and practicality in use, portability during travel, optimal ratio of weight / resistance, optimal instrument protection with reinforcements at critical points, weather resistance, uniqueness of every single bag design.

The brand's name derives from fusing both creativity “CREA” and recycling “RE”. Their main focus on the process of creating new ideas and methods to reuse discarded materials, responsibly. Their design is specifically imagined to elevate the range of these materials and create unique, useful and ecological design objects.

    v

    Peter Qvist

    Qvist Daybed

    $4,995.00

This astonishing piece of art is a modern Daybed interpretation inspired by the line production of Danish designer Helge Vestergaard Jensen in 1955.

The daybed has a light and dynamic expression, and because of the transparent line construction the skeleton-like framework appears visible from above.

The structure of the item may appear complex, but the overall look is very simple and streamlined. And exactly this tension between complexity and simplicity was the main aim of this design.

    STORY

Internationally acclaimed Danish designer and architect Peter Qvist has a distinct style of expression that is recognizable throughout his furniture, architecture and art projects. Qvist has made it his trademark to combine advanced 3D modeling with skilled craftsmanship.

The daybed is the result of Qvist penchant for advanced dynamic modeling. Its shape is at first achieved through work in 3D, then it's split into 15 sub-elements and refined in 2D. The various laminated birch veneer elements are then milled out on a CNC machine, for afterwards being individually oiled and stained, adding to its durability. Finally, the elements are screwed together, so that they form the chair in its entirety.

An uncompromising approach to creating unique furniture led to the perfect balance between design, functionality and art.

Birch trees are native to northern Europe and Russia. It is an abundant, fast growing species; there is no destruction or disruption of biodiversity when birch is felled. Birch is high strength, wear-resistance, moisture resistant, high surface quality and integrity.

  • Afterdark

    Modify

Afterdark "Interference" Media Unit | Limited Edition

    $2,995.00

Introducing the Afterdark "Interference" Media Unit by Modify, part of the designer's Afterdark Series, a curated art and furniture collection.

It is a collaborative, ongoing project designed to celebrate community artists and their visions. The Afterdark pieces are offered in a limited volume selection, representing both seasoned and emerging artists.

    STORY

Exuding color, harmony and überness, Interference is also a metaphor of modern madness – unrelenting multimedia and multitasking layered upon quotidien mania. Hues move quickly but not feverishly over space. Margins episodically become imperfect, textures morph, and focus may be deliberately obscured. And although change is inevitable, we cross back briefly and often into color singularity - into understanding – which is a more stable and perfect place until it is not. The viewer need not be affected by similar madness. A collection of rhythmic and slightly inconsonant colors, one kissing the other, may simply be enjoyed from afar for the energy and beauty it brings to a space.

Modify has carefully chosen each component of their furniture with design, function and sustainability in mind. By using rapidly renewable bamboo, recycled content aluminum, organic powder coating and low VOC finishes, we are able to offer you the best quality furniture with a clean, green conscience. They not only source their aluminum from a local vendor that uses 30% recycled content - their accessory line is also cleverly designed to use the left-over pieces of bamboo that would otherwise be scrap, so their waste rate is under 5%.

Materials & Colors: Aluminum sublimation on sliding panels | Powder coated white aluminum frame | Caramelized bamboo shelving

    Art Theme: "Interference"

    Split Grain

    Light Sculpture 3 Legs | One-of-a-Kind

    $395.00

Introducing the Light Sculpture 3 Legs by Hawaii's brand Split Grain. This highly sensitive designer and sculptor uses light to reveal the elemental form and physical character of reclaimed wood. The piece is custom fit with a warm LED light, an integrated aluminum piece as a heat sink also acts as an architectural feature. Sustainable Design without Compromising Aesthetics and Performance

    KRAFT PAPER

Kraft paper is a 100% biodegradable natural product. The pulp is made from long virgin fibres of maritime pine and is not bleached, to ensure minimum chemical processing and to retain the wood's natural colour. Kraft paper biodegrades entirely naturally. Just like the leaves from the trees, kraft paper decomposes naturally within a few weeks, returning to its initial form of cellulose fibres, which can be fully assimilated back into its original natural environment, with no adverse impact on nature or human health. The production of kraft paper is an entirely closed-cycle process. All materials resulting from the process are recovered and recycled, and waste is used as a source of energy. This entirely closed-cycle system has major benefits, both environmental and economic.

    DNT Design

    Candle Holder | Wide

    $249.00

This stunning sculptural candle holder has a tree-like look and feel, but is surprisingly handmade in recycled paper.

The upcycled paper mass was mixed with natural glue, and dried out. The result is an exquisite product that features the texture of a tree bark. The piece is then polished and covered with varnish, thus it is not afraid of humidity.

This design oriented candle holder was created following the designer's "closer to nature” concept. During the day, it complements your contemporary interior decor, and as night, it becomes a romantic candle light creating unpredictable plays of shadows. Candle included.

The candle holder collection also includes the Curve Candle Holder, Narrow Candle Holder, Small Candle Holder and Tall Candle Holder (see our DNT Design Collection).

    STORY

Lithuanian designer Donatas Zukauskasam is the head behind the creative brand DNT Design. Donatas graduated from Vilnius Art Academy in interior design. He also has a passion for product design, specially when involving eco-conscious materials. After seeing unusual works of art made of paper, Donatas got interested in this creative kind of work and decided to give another function to this biodegradable material.

While experimenting with recycled paper mass, Donatas realized this material has extensive possibilities of plastic expression. He was fascinated by its form, color, texture, lace work, plasticity and other qualities. Attracted by this potential, Donatas started making decorative objects meant for contemporary interiors. It goes without saying that the manual production of these sophisticated objects require much patience, dedication and time.

“I am and always have been inspired by the culture that I grew up in. It is such a creative place where people use materials often overlooked to create the most amazing pieces of art. I have learned that there is the potential for beauty in everything around us, but it is the way we use it, the way we see it and the way we apply it that makes it beautiful.”

With this, they use recycled and plantation woods predominately local. Being eco friendly and sustainably responsible are part of their core attributes. Uniqwa as the name describes, is uniqueness with a difference.

The focus at Uniqwa is nature inspired with ethnic African and Scandi influences, a casual relaxed yet sophisticated feel to bring personality and warmth to a contemporary environment. They focus on raw combined with soft loose linen mixing both structured and unstructured textural elements bringing a very tactile aesthetic to the interiors market.

The introduction of their basket ware collection is receiving much attention and supporting African grass roots economy, especially in areas such as Zimbabwe. These are rewarding products that have been brought to Australia’s design industry, and now to the world through Green Design Gallery.
