    Rug Solid

    Bike Carpet

    $59.00

Handmade in India from reclaimed bicycle tubes - yes, the rubber hoses that sit inside a bicycle tire - the Bike Carpet has been handwoven with care from many big and small strips of bicycle tubes.

During the production process, a uniform and tight weaving is a priority, so the end result is a high-quality carpet that will be long lasting, contemporary and earth-conscious. Available in 5 sizes.

    STORY

Although these carpets have potentially traveled hundreds of kilometers, they are not just durable - they also carry a stunning exceptional story. In a small village in India, bicycle tubes are cut into small strips and are then woven together into these perfect rugs. All the weaving is of course done by hand.

Danish brand Rug Solid’s fundamental idea is rooted in recycling. They are taking it upon themselves to create new life by transforming waste into beautiful, unique design rugs in an exquisite quality. Less waste. More function. It’s that simple.

Rug Solid's products are certified Global Recycled Standard (GRS). The standard applies to the full supply chain and addresses traceability, environmental principles, social requirements, and labeling. GRS was developed with the textile industry in mind.

    Technical information

Daily cleaning may be done with regular vacuuming or by beating the rug. If the rug is stained, it's often easier to rinse it with a garden hose than using a brush to avoid rubbing the stain in further between the fibres. Stretch the rug immediately if it gets wet.

The Bike Tube Carpet can go outside, but does not tolerate frost. It may eventually tenderize in direct sunlight. Since it is woven by hand, the size may vary by 3-5%. Some floors can be delicate and particularly susceptible, we therefore recommend that the carpet used with a rug underlay to prevent staining on the floor. If in doubt, check with the flooring manufacturer. The carpet may be slightly "dented" when put on the floor, but will flatten with use.

PLEASE NOTE THAT AT THE MOMENT, THIS PRODUCT IS NOT AVAILABLE IN NORTH AMERICA.

  • Horizon Carpet | Fishing Nets + Wool

    Rug Solid

Horizon Carpet | Fishing Nets + Wool

    $275.00

Handmade from a blend of wool and recycled fishing nets, the Horizon Carpet is handwoven together by using recycled cotton thread.

The designs are created by French industrial designer Jocelyn Deris, inspired by the changing horizons and landscapes around our world.

The name Horizon emerges with the hope that innovative use of our natural resources can change the horizons for future generations. Thus, the idea of Horizon strikes at the core of our belief, that creative choice of materials and production can benefit our planet, one step at a time.

Horizon is available in 2 sizes and in three different colors fitting most styles and spaces.

    STORY

When you feel this carpet between your hands, you will feel the care that has gone into the dense weave. Of course it is less expensive, and easier to produce carpeting in conventional manner. There is, however, not much reuse of materials, which is why we believe this method is worth the effort. Another advantage is that no two carpets are the same; each carpet has its own particular and beautiful details.

During the production process, a uniform and tight weaving is a priority, so the end result is a high-quality carpet that will be long lasting, contemporary and earth-conscious.

                Qvist Rocking Chair + Stool

                $4,295.00

Introducing the future-forward newly launched Qvist Rocking Chair + Stool by Danish architect and furniture designer Peter Qvist.

Combining structural stability with a transparent design, the wooden chair and stool are made from laminated birch veneer and polyester to serve as a distinctive furniture piece for both the interiors and outdoors.

This future-forward design is a great way to add comfort along with style in your home. The designer has kept the rocking chair comfortable enough with the thick black polyester line and birch veneer which is separately oiled and waxed to offer a dramatic appeal to the chair. Its perforated seat blends beautifully with the white – wooden frame of the chair which goes well with light colored interiors.

The wooden frame of the rocker chair has rustic touches of birch wood to give it a minimalist look which gives your space an aesthetic appeal. It has no arm–rests, so you can comfortably lean against it to take a catnap with you legs fully rested on its footrest.

The Qvist rocking chair is a result of Qvist re-imagination and creativity to make a functional furniture that looks unique in any room with its transparent design. Its curved and flat design not only improves your basic health, but its low-lying structure makes it a comfy accessory for Dementia patients.

                KRAFT PAPER

Kraft paper is a 100% biodegradable natural product. The pulp is made from long virgin fibres of maritime pine and is not bleached, to ensure minimum chemical processing and to retain the wood's natural colour. Kraft paper biodegrades entirely naturally. Just like the leaves from the trees, kraft paper decomposes naturally within a few weeks, returning to its initial form of cellulose fibres, which can be fully assimilated back into its original natural environment, with no adverse impact on nature or human health. The production of kraft paper is an entirely closed-cycle process. All materials resulting from the process are recovered and recycled, and waste is used as a source of energy. This entirely closed-cycle system has major benefits, both environmental and economic.

                  Plastic Rug | White

                  $55.00

Handwoven in India with plastic remnants, the exquisite Plastic Rug will add an absolute extra coolness to your floor.

On first glance, the rug looks like a tightly woven cotton rug, but it has all the advantages of plastic. We doubt you'll ever find a more durable, practical rug than these versatile plastic rugs. They can be used over and over again for years. You can use them inside and outside, let them shine on the terrace, at the poolside, in the bathroom or the hallway!

In spite of the modern expression, this plastic rug is produced in a very traditional fashion: it's woven by hand! This requires patience and lots of skill, because the plastic fibres are smooth and slippery and therefore harder to control than more common materials during the weaving process. It's very time consuming, but the quality of the end-product makes it all worth it.

                  Available in 6 sizes.

                  STORY

When you feel this carpet between your hands, you will also feel the care that has gone into the dense weave.

Since these products are woven by hand, the size may vary by 3-5%.

                  STORY

Rotsen creates furniture that will stand the test of time and fleeting fashion - strikingly modern designs that take their unrivaled beauty from the creative combination of contrasting materials.

This is furniture to cherish for a lifetime and pass on to future generations. In a world with finite resources choosing even a single piece of high-quality furniture offers an alternative to buying and replacing a succession of mass-produced pieces destined for the landfill.

Rotsen works with wood from decaying bridges, old barns and demolished structures, harvested from fallen, well preserved trees, or from sustainable plantations and well managed forests to create furniture that is luxurious, distinct and unforgettable.

                  Rug Solid

Remnant Cotton Rug | Eternity Blue

                  $39.00

Handwoven with cotton remnants from the fashion industry, the exquisite Remnant Rug will add an absolute extra coolness to your floor.

The handcrafted cotton rug has been woven with a series of cotton strips - remains from the international fashion industry. Normally, these would meet their sad end in a container, and later probably at a disposal facility. Instead, they are now used to bring you this beautiful and unique cotton rug.

When the fashion industry makes shirts, skirts and other cool stuff, they end up with many cotton leftovers. Rug Solid loves garbage. They bring the leftover materials to a small village in India, where they sort the colours, shred the cotton, and weave the thousands of small pieces to end up with a one-of-a-kind rug. All done by hand naturally. If you have the patience (and a dash of luck), you might recognize a pattern or some details from last season’s fashion collection.

                  Available in 6 sizes.

                  Classic Guitar Eco-Bag | ONE-OF-A-KIND SERIES

                  $225.00

Introducing the exclusive Classic Guitar Eco-Bag | ONE-OF-A-KIND SERIES handmade from upcycled plastic and ecological fur.

Washable and waterproof, the bag is part of Crea-Re's exclusive handmade and upcycled musical instrument bags collection (see their one-of-a-kind items in our Green Play Collection).

                  STORY

The brand uses eco-friendly and reclaimed materials such as: truck tarpaulins, advertising banners, bike inner tubes, paragliding wires, climbing wires, car seat belts, etc. These reusable materials are similar in that they all are durable, flexible, water resistant and they are hard to recycle ecologically. The inspiration comes from geometric abstraction, cut-up technique, cubism and suprematism.

The inside of the bag is upholstered with 2 cm of double density foam, and a soft ecological fur optimizes the protection of your instrument, keeping it always clean. The bag is reinforced in critical points to protect the instruments from any accidents: a double pillow in the bottom protects the strap pin against potential damage; a velcro strap around the neck, made from car safety belts, provides stability and keeps the guitar firm inside the case. It has two adjustable shoulder straps and a handle. It’s perfect and comfortable to travel by bike, scooter, bus, train, metro, skates, etc. It features a spacious front pocket useful for carrying books, sheet music, cables, pedals, and all that you need to make great music.

The materials used to create a bag are of regional origin (Spain). They are cleaned in an environmental friendly way with hot water, frozen dew, and organic products such as vinegar, baking soda and home soap. The are then cut, assembled by hand and carefully examined for integrity, strength and durability. The zippers are resistant to thousands of openings and closings. The accessories are designed and chosen to tackle traction and extreme weights.

                  DESIGNER

Each product designed by Crea-Re is based on a few but important golden rules: comfort and practicality in use, portability during travel, optimal ratio of weight / resistance, optimal instrument protection with reinforcements at critical points, weather resistance, uniqueness of every single bag design.

The brand's name derives from fusing both creativity “CREA” and recycling “RE”. Their main focus on the process of creating new ideas and methods to reuse discarded materials, responsibly. Their design is specifically imagined to elevate the range of these materials and create unique, useful and ecological design objects.

                • Wood Casting Side Table / Cypress or Eucalyptus

                  Hilla Shamia

Wood Casting Side Table / Cypress or Eucalyptus

                  $4,595.00

Part of the Wood Casting fine art furniture collection by Israeli furniture designer Hilla Shamia, the SideTable is a one-of-a-kind handmade versatile piece of furniture, featuring gorgeously unique ash lines and imperfections in its wood.

Two colors available: Cypress-light or Eucalyptus-reddish.

The incompleteness and randomness give the product its aesthetic value. Like nature, the final product is unique.

                  STORY

The combination of cast aluminum and locally sourced natural wood preserves the natural form of a burnt tree trunk, creating an emotionally charged renewal that gives life back to this piece. Juxtaposed beautifully against the metal, it's a cohesive piece that can only be defined as fine art furniture.

The collection exhibits a unique combination between two materials, using a completely new technology to create a perfect balance between a natural resource and an industrial matter.

Molten aluminum is poured directly onto the wooden the surface which burns the exterior, the plank is then cut lengthwise and inserted with frame to define its final structure. The casting process is accompanied with high heat, flames and smoke. When the metal is cooled down and the mold breaks apart, the furniture piece reveals the dark border between the hot metal and wood, enabling us to observe the leakage of aluminum and the carbonized wood which is frozen in time.

                  Cypress wood facts:

                  • The slow growing, tight ringed cypress is denser than normal wood, making it easily resist shrinkage, and highly energy efficient;
                  • Excellent at absorbing stains;
                  • Planes easily and resists warping;
                  • Its heartwood contains the natural preservative oil cypressene, which is what makes cypress wood resist to rot, insects, and decay.

Introducing the Maine Patio Dining Collection by Dutch-American designer brand Van de Sant. The lines of this chair and table collection were inspired by Maine's beautiful curvaceous hills and scenic drives.

Contemporary outdoor furniture offering a unique upholstered design that is completely weather resistant. Minimalistic, modern and full of character.

                  STORY

The interior frames are made of a polymer frame made of 100% recycled materials and are wrapped with an outdoor rated foam cushion. The Sunbrella® fabric has a vinyl backing and is 100% waterproof, resistant to stains, chlorine and saltwater and available in over 150 color choices (not all colors are listed, please ask us for a complete listing). but also the very sought-after advantages of comfort, quality and weather resistance (the new plastic material used is anti-fungal). The plastic waste is collected through recycling programs and from the very litter polluting the small island nation of Curacao, where Van de Sant operates.

Van de Sant, a Curacao/USA based company specializing in luxurious outdoor furniture, believes that recycling is attractive. The brand has created an innovate way of manufacturing outdoor furniture; by using sustainable raw materials like recycled plastic and carpet fiber sheets, they increased their focus on the ecological environment. With the challenge of not using wood, they are continuously improving their products to a higher standard in the outdoor furniture market. Van de Sant is not only decreasing deforestation, they also take part in reducing plastic waste in the ocean!

                  Hydraulic Tray

                  $175.00

Handmade from recycled cement, sand, granite and marble dust from the stone industry, the Hydraulic Tray results from the traditional application for tile making.

For easy cleaning and maintenance, every tray is coated with varnish that seals the surface, similar to the one used for hydraulic cement floors.

                  STORY

The process for making traditional encaustic cement tiles relies on highly skilled labour, rather than technology investment. These trays are handmade one by one, following a traditional recipe that gives the best results, in terms of toughness, durability, detail, and colour uniformity. These tiles show two layers with distinctive characteristics: the top one is done with the finest white cement, mixed with marble and granite dust, and colour, giving a very fine and smooth surface. The backing layer is a dry mix of sand and cement that supports the top layer. Designer Carlos Ortega wanted these trays to show these layers, as they tell how it is made.

Ortega uses marble and granite recycled from the natural stone industry, mainly saw dust waste. The finest aggregates combined with a smooth mould give the best surface. Top quality pigments are also important. The process gives us the chance to experiment with different shapes by simply making moulds. Each shape can also show a variety of coloured patterns, possibilities are endless.

It is such a creative place where people use materials often overlooked to create the most amazing pieces of art. I have learned that there is the potential for beauty in everything around us, but it is the way we use it, the way we see it and the way we apply it that makes it beautiful.”

The ethos behind Uniqwa is to use recycled and plantation woods in their range to create contemporary design. Featuring the exotic influence of African culture integrated with contemporary flair, Uniqwa’s distinctive and inspiring pieces are a stunning addition to any room.

Founder of Uniqwa Furniture, Charl van Heerden was born in South Africa, but studied Furniture Design + Technology at RMIT in Melbourne, Australia. Inspired by nature and ethnic culture, Charl uses this drive to create simple and functional pieces that showcase this exotic influence.

“I am and always have been inspired by the culture that I grew up in. It is such a creative place where people use materials often overlooked to create the most amazing pieces of art. I have learned that there is the potential for beauty in everything around us, but it is the way we use it, the way we see it and the way we apply it that makes it beautiful.”
