    KRAFT PAPER

Kraft paper is a 100% biodegradable natural product. The pulp is made from long virgin fibres of maritime pine and is not bleached, to ensure minimum chemical processing and to retain the wood's natural colour. Kraft paper biodegrades entirely naturally. Just like the leaves from the trees, kraft paper decomposes naturally within a few weeks, returning to its initial form of cellulose fibres, which can be fully assimilated back into its original natural environment, with no adverse impact on nature or human health. The production of kraft paper is an entirely closed-cycle process. All materials resulting from the process are recovered and recycled, and waste is used as a source of energy. This entirely closed-cycle system has major benefits, both environmental and economic.

    Simmis Stool | Side Table

    $395.00 $295.00

The Simmis Stool has been created with the intention to experiment with geometric shapes, intervening on the form as well as on the texture of the product.

The result is a robust and strong figure which allows for the material natural characteristics to stand out. Following the Simmis series and connecting it with the Simmis Chair, the central incision was made, which divides the stool, like the chair, into two identical halves, giving lightness in order to balance the figure.

    STORY

Studio La Cube works under a fundamental concept with infinite interpretations: the cube. The brand was founded with the idea to create a workspace in which to build and deconstruct this form in everyday objects. In addition to this, they research the best quality for their products, based on two basic concepts: the quality of the raw material and the craft production process. Their approach is highly minimalistic to the form and symmetry.

Through natural materials, they stay true to the rusticity of wood, iron and ceramics, displayed in their authenticity, with almost imperceptible treatments that highlight the natural qualities of matter. See other Studio La Cube products in our Decor, Tables and Seating Collections)

    Hush Seating Pod

    $3,595.00

Hush is a felt seating pod handcrafted entirely from biodegradable materials, which users can crawl into to work or rest in private.

"By creating an enclosed space, Hush provides a personal retreat, a luxurious escape into a dark, hushed, natural space in the midst of a busy hotel, airport, office or library," explains British designer Freyja Sewell.

    STORY

The main body of HUSH is cut from a single piece of 10mm industrial wool felt. Wool is naturally flame retardant, breathable, durable and elastic; it is also multi-climatic, meaning it is warm when the environment is cold and cool when it’s warm. It is of course biodegradable and so won’t clog up landfill after disposal. It is produced sustainably from animals out in the open, with each sheep producing a new fleece each year. The internal padding of HUSH is made from recycled wool fibers, produced as a by-product of the British carpet industry.

Freyja Sewell set out to create a private space within a public world, handmade from natural, biodegradable materials. Three years in the making, HUSH is now available for purchase.

Open plan offices and public buildings, online profile sharing, cameras built into our laptops; never has it been easier for humans to connect, but what about when we want to withdraw? It is essential to continue to develop new ways of allowing people to comfortably co-exist in our increasingly densely populated environments.

By creating an enclosed space HUSH provides a personal retreat, a luxurious escape into a dark, hushed, natural space in the midst of a busy hotel, airport, office or library. HUSH provided a quiet space in an age of exponential population growth, where privacy and peaceful respite is an increasingly precious commodity.

    Peter Qvist

    Peak Footstool

    $1,349.00

Acclaimed Danish designer and architect Peter Qvist put icing on the cake by adding a footstool to the fabulous Peak Lounge Chair.

The Peak Footstool is designed to match the Peak Chair, but might also be used as a stand alone sculptural stool. The stool is the result of Qvist penchant for advanced dynamic modeling. Careful attention to detail and craftsmanship give a human presence and touch to the furniture.

    STORY

The stool shape is at first achieved through work in 3D, then it is split into 25 sub-elements and refined in 2D. The various laminated birch veneer elements are then milled out on a CNC machine, for afterwards being individually oiled and stained, adding to its durability. Finally, the elements are screwed together, so that they form the stool in its entirety.

The structure of the item may appear complex, but the overall look is very simple and streamlined. The tension between complexity and simplicity was precisely the main objective of this design.

The asymmetric design provides an ever-changing experience all the way around and creates an encouraging atmosphere in the room. Precisely this result was the primary idea behind, namely, to design a non anonymous coat stand, which with its artistic shape attracts attention and beauty in the eye of the beholder.

Internationally acclaimed Danish designer and architect Peter Qvist has a distinct style of expression that is recognizable throughout his furniture, architecture and art projects. Qvist has made it his trademark to combine advanced 3D modeling with skilled craftsmanship.

An uncompromising approach to creating unique furniture led to the perfect balance between design, functionality and art.

Birch trees are native to northern Europe and Russia. It is an abundant, fast growing species; there is no destruction or disruption of biodiversity when birch is felled. Birch is high strength, wear-resistance, moisture resistant, high surface quality and integrity.

Sustainable Design without Compromising Aesthetics and Performance

  • Sedeō Low Stool | Meditation Stool

    Fundament

Sedeō Low Stool | Meditation Stool

    $125.00

The collapsable Sedeō stool by Danish design studio Fundament is handcrafted by local artisans and has been created to help with meditation and mindfulness.

Sitting on Sedeō is elevating, it clarifies your mind and aligns your spine. Designed for mindfulness, Sedeō is a stool for meditation and low-seating. The stool's legs slot into the base via an innovative joint system, making stool easy to collapse and bring with you on your wildest adventures.

Sedeō (Latin word for "I settle") portable stool also comes with a carrying case, which is made at the HKI sewing shop. The shoulder strap of the case is made of organic cotton and woven at a small factory in Southern Sweden called Smålands Band.

A successful 2015-2016 Kickstarter project, and inspired by the Scandinavian design tradition, Sedeō is designed with an eye for detail. The final design is the result of over 10 prototypes, testing edges, joints, angles, thicknesses, materials, and finishes.

    STORY

A Stool That Helps You Sit

The way we hold ourselves affects who we are. When we sit or stand with good posture, science has shown that our brains work better, our mood improves, and we have more energy. The design builds on research which has shown that by tilting the surface of our seating at a 15-20 degree angle, tension is released in our lower back and our spines are able to follow their natural curve. This makes sitting upright more relaxing and almost effortless.

The idea of good posture can sound exhausting, as if you have to have a stick up your behind. But actually, good posture is meant to be relaxing and energizing, it is just that standard chairs are not designed for it. However, when you sit on an angled surface, it tilts your sitting bone and properly supports your spine, making sitting upright effortless.

    Built To Last

Sedeō is made with solid oak, one of the hardest and longest-lasting woods in existence. It is sourced from a forest near Frankfurt Germany, which produces oak known for its high quality and tight grain. The wood is FSC certified, and trees are harvested and replanted following strict social and environmental regulations.

    An Ethical Initiative

The artisans who craft the stools are based in a workshop just five blocks from the Fundament studio. They are part of a social enterprise called the Hans Knudsen Institute (HKI). HKI employs people who have previously had difficulty entering the job market and trains them to be furniture makers and tailors. Several have minor disabilities (such as Asperger), and all are excellent craftsmen and women. They also work with recent immigrants and refugees. All receive good wages and six weeks of paid vacation. HKI produces products for a small network of Danish designers, just like Fundament.

The textile used in the carrying cases is handwoven on looms by a network of artisans living in Kerala, India. The material is certified fair-trade and organic, and all weavers own a share in profits earned in the sale of the fabric. The cotton is also planted in rotations, so that soil conditions can be maintained and other food crops can be grown on the same land.

    Fundament

Fundament Design is a multi-disciplinary design collaborative based in Copenhagen. One of their newest designs is Sedeō, a portable meditation stool designed for low seating, meditation, and mindfulness. In creating Sedeō, Fundament wanted to include mindfulness in all aspects of the production. As such, Sedeō is handcrafted in Copenhagen from German oak by local artisans with minor mental disabilities. According to the designer Josh Morrison, the tilted seat has a significant impact on mental clarity.

Fundament is the Danish word for foundation. It represents a solid platform for creating meaningful design. At Fundament, designers explore the ethical side of design at all levels, from materials sourcing, to product manufacture, to design impact and aesthetic value.

                                        STORY

Australian based Uniqwa specializes in designer furniture inspired by nature and ethnic culture that fits into contemporary environments. With this, they use recycled and plantation woods predominately local. Being eco friendly and sustainably responsible are part of their core attributes. Uniqwa as the name describes, is uniqueness with a difference.

The focus at Uniqwa is nature inspired with ethnic African and Scandi influences, a casual relaxed yet sophisticated feel to bring personality and warmth to a contemporary environment. They focus on raw combined with soft loose linen mixing both structured and unstructured textural elements bringing a very tactile aesthetic to the interiors market.

The introduction of their basket ware collection is receiving much attention and supporting African grass roots economy, especially in areas such as Zimbabwe. These are rewarding products that have been brought to Australia’s design industry, and now to the world through Green Design Gallery.

Founder of Uniqwa Furniture, Charl van Heerden was born in South Africa, but studied Furniture Design & Technology at RMIT in Australia. “I am and always have been inspired by the culture that I grew up in.

It is such a creative place where people use materials often overlooked to create the most amazing pieces of art. I have learned that there is the potential for beauty in everything around us, but it is the way we use it, the way we see it and the way we apply it that makes it beautiful.”

It is such a creative place where people use materials often overlooked to create the most amazing pieces of art. I have learned that there is the potential for beauty in everything around us, but it is the way we use it, the way we see it and the way we apply it that makes it beautiful.”

These are rewarding products that have been brought to Australia’s design industry, and now to the world through Green Design Gallery.

It is such a creative place where people use materials often overlooked to create the most amazing pieces of art. I have learned that there is the potential for beauty in everything around us, but it is the way we use it, the way we see it and the way we apply it that makes it beautiful.”
